David Garlock B.Sc. (Honours) / A.I.T Diploma
Skills
Training/Teaching/Facilitation:
I have spent over twenty years developing my training skills while working in a variety of sports and also Information Technology. During this time I conducted many “Train the Trainer” Courses for the Canadian Yachting Association.
Information Technology:
I hold an Applied Information Technology Diploma from the Information Technology Institute and I’m a Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform. I have experience with all MS Office Applications, ASP Programming, Server Side Java Programming and Web Technologies (HTML, Java Script, VB Script, MS FrontPage, FTP, etc.). I have a keen interest in image processing and photography using Adobe Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC. I am comfortable working on both PC and Mac platforms.
Group Dynamics/ Interpersonal:
As a live-aboard sailing instructor I was responsible for taking a group of five adults on board a 40-50 foot sailing vessel for a week of instruction. These five adults had to work, eat, sleep and pursue recreational activities in extremely close proximity to one another. During these trips it was my responsibility to ensure efficient group dynamics. I have conducted over 60 of these types of courses.
Presentation:
My time as a trainer has allowed me to develop superb presentation skills. A quote from a former student: “Awesome facilitator. Presents the material well. Even though Java is hard to learn, he presents the material very well. Presentation of the material is awesome”.
Ability, and Passion, To Quickly Master New Skills:
I hold a B.Sc. (Honours) Degree, instructor ratings in three sports (Sailing, Skydiving and Scuba Diving) and professional level IT skills. The quote stated above was an evaluation of my ability after only one year of Java (or any programming) experience.
Risk Management:
My experience with skydiving, scuba diving, sailing and the operation of public transit vehicles has given me a highly developed sense of risk management and an appreciation for quality safety standards.
Personal Health and Fitness:
I am passionate and dedicated to my personal fitness program. I believe this is vitally important to my ability to function in the work place with vigor and enthusiasm while reducing sick days.
